Cookie Friday

Got up today and had my breakfast. Did some of my assignment before starting my quiet time. After that, I started my cookie making session.

First up, I gathered all the ingredients and measured them. Then, I started mixing them to for the cookie dough.

The mix (didn't expect so much!)

Then after all that labour, I used 2 teaspoons to dollop the dough onto the trays. Then, I put them in the oven. The cookies expanded as I feared. Luckily I prepared some space for them to expand.

The cookie dough ready to be baked

Cookies in the oven

It's a good thing they expanded actually. Because that means bigger cookies for everyone! :)

I used 3 trays at a time. Everytime a tray is ready, I'll take it out to let the cookies cool. Then, I'd dollop more cookies and put them into the oven.

Cookies "chilling" :P

Cookies are actually more work compared to a cake. This is because you have to constantly look at the oven and do batches of cookies. If it were a cake, all you need to do is dump it into the oven once.

I was done by 3.40pm and packed everything up. I quickly took my shower and got ready for LG. Took the bus to Kenmore Central and waited for another bus. If I had waited for the city bus instead, I would have got to the Lifegroup much earlier.

All ready to be stolen by the cookie monster!

Arrived in time for Pre-LG prayer. After that, E asked me where is my cheesecake and I told her I didn't bring any cake. You see, I was assigned to bring "Cake/Cookies 800g" and some assumed I'd bring cheesecake.

During dinner, many people praised my cookies. Some said it was as good as Subway's. AW told me I should sell them for a dollar each! :P

Actually, it was my first attempt to make cookies. I used a secret ingredient which helped me make this a success. It starts with the letter "P". Feel free to ask me about it.

Anyway, we had a great time in Lifegroup. It ended a little late today but I'm sure everyone enjoyed it.

Got home at about 11pm. Took my shower and started blogging till now.

Today has been a great day. Tomorrow will be my assignment day so please wish me luck and pray for me. Goodnight!

Andrew's Kitchen by QUT3

Today was the best "food" day I had in Brisbane. It did have its up and downs though. Here's how it went.

I woke up and realized we RAN OUT OF GELATINE. And without it, my cheesecake was going to be all liquid. So I ate some breakfast and quickly took the bus to Woolworths.

Quickly bought the gelatine and went back home. Started making my cheesecake. Took me about an hour to get everything done.

Ingredients

Mars Bars Cheesecake

Next, I made jelly for my cousins. Then, I cleaned up and started my revision. For lunch, I made some tomato spaghetti. Stopped revision at 3pm to chat with JW.

Lunch

Got ready and finally went out at 4pm. Took the bus to the city before I walked over to Central Train Station. Met IW and H there.

Because non of us were sure where to go, I asked the guard. He told us "Platform 5, Ipswich train". Good. So once we got onto the platform, I saw "Ipswich, Departing NOW".

I took a dash for it. And I managed to get on the train. IW came to the door and it shut right at her face. Then the train left. Damn.

I was calling J to tell him about it. But by the time he answered, I realized something. I was on the wrong train. The overhead speaker announced "This is an express train. Next stop, Darra".

I didn't actually panic but was just upset because I would be late. Once at Darra, I crossed the bridge to platform 4. Then, I checked the schedule and realized the next train would be in Platform 2. So I crossed the bridge again.

Got onto the train. 9 stops and 20 minutes later, I arrived. Walked to G's house and was in time for the event. I went to the table and took some pictures of the FOOD!

This is just the first table. They brought out more desserts later!

So one of the Andrews, Andrew Wong was the host for the night. He made everyone introduce their dish. What everyone did was share their dish name, some description of the dish, and source of inspiration.

Andrew's Kitchen with QUT3

I tried taking pictures of everyone, but most of them turned out blur. So here are a few of them introducing their dishes.

J with Curry Spaghetti

PY and LR with their Fried Dumplings

K with his Egg Tarts

D with Jelly

In between the introductions, J brought out a stack of mini cakes (made by him) with some candles on it. All of us sang the birthday song to TL.

TL the birthday boy

After everyone introduced their dish, it was time for the FEAST to begin! I tried a little of everything. Some were okay, some were great. Unfortunately, there was a dish where the meat was impossible for me to chew. I had to go to the toilet and spit it into tissue.

Halfway through the dinner, some of them asked if they can have my cheesecake now. I had a look at it and it was terrible. It had melted because it was out of the fridge for about 2 hours.

So since the fridge can't help it, I decided to put it into the freezer. After about 15 minutes, it was much better. After about 10 minutes, a few of them came to tell me how they liked my cheesecake. That made me very very happy. :D

Suddenly, C came with a box of "Ben and Jerry" ice creams! There were at least 10 tubs there. She won it from some competition and decided to share it with us. DELICIOUS!

LR trying to stuff all the ice cream into the freezer!

Next was game time. AH prepared the games and taught us how to play them. The first one was called "Terrorist" where we form a circle and pass the "bomb". Two CIDs will then try to find where the bomb is. The second game was "Charades" with a twist. We have to draw the word, BLINDFOLDED!

After the games, it was the moment everyone was waiting for. The judges announced the winners. There were 3 categories. Best Tasting, Best Presentation, and Most Unique Dish.

Best Tasting was the dumplings by LR and PY. There were no dumplings left on the table so that must mean something. Best Presentation was the jellies made by D. She spent a lot of time layering them. (Just realized, that both winners pictures are on this post.)

As for the Most Unique Dish, it was the Mars Bars Cheesecake by ME! :) Actually, I didn't expect to win because J said "you can't get this dish in Brisbane except here" and I was thinking "you can get cheesecake everywhere, so I won't win".

My physical present for the Most Unique Dish. The emotional present is way bigger than this. :D

A photo album

Anyway, I'm happy I won. But most importantly, everyone liked it. I promised them I'll make it again if they want. Of course, every chef enjoys providing his customers with good food right. :D

We hung around and ate some jelly and ice cream for dessert. Then at about 9.30pm, G sent a few girls home and dropped me at Indoooroopilly. Took the bus from there.

Got home at about 10pm. D was watching "Survivor: Redemption Island" so I joined him. Later, I took my shower. By the time I turned my laptop on, it was 12am.

Used the laptop to chat and write this post. Anyway, it's quite late now. Gotta go to bed. Night...

Porky Pork Day

Woke up at about 11am and took my shower. Then at 11.40am, mum brought us to Betty's Midwest Kitchen for lunch. I ordered Pork Chop with Country Gravy and shared a Dog Food with J.

Pork Chop with Country Gravy - RM 23.00

Dog Food - RM 9.00

The pork chop turned out to be HARD! It was so hard to cut and bite it. And for the "dog food", J decided NOT to eat even a quarter of it so we had a hard time finishing it. In the end, there were about 5 pieces left. :S

Back home, I watched 5 episodes of CBML till it was 6pm. Went downstairs because AM, SC and JT came to visit. I then took my shower before watching another episode of CBML.

We went for dinner at 7.30pm and arrived at 8.10pm. Dad brought us to "Belly Good" in Mentari Court. The lady there asked us if we were interested in a Pork Knuckle which she made extra. If she didn't, we will have to book it in advance. So we agreed.

Belly Good, Mentari Court

The Menu (they claim to have REASONABLE PRICES)

Pork Knuckle - RM 89.00

Sauce for the Pork Knuckle

The pork knuckle was soft and nice! If it had more taste to it, then the dish would be perfect. We also ordered a Sausage Platter which came with 4 different types of sausage. But, I couldn't really tell the difference.

Sausage Platter - RM 29.90

Spaghetti Bolognaise - RM 25.80

Later, we ordered the Baked Cinnamon Apples with Ice Cream for dessert. It was nice but I don't think it was worth the price we paid. I'd rather pay for the Apple Crumble in Betty's.

Baked Cinnamon Apples with Ice Cream - RM 12.90

Back home, I finished watching the last 10 minutes of the CBML 18. Then, I started blogging and surfing the net.

It's 11.41pm already and I shall end this post here. Night...

Betty's Midwest Kitchen, Aman Suria

Mum brought us to this restaurant called "Betty's Midwest Kitchen" for lunch. This place is in Aman Suria. For directions, click here.

Betty's Midwest Kitchen

So we sat down and ordered looked at the menu. I then decided to order the Beer Batter Fish. Mum shared the Soft Ribs with E and J. M had a "Jucy Lucy" and we also ordered a Classical Meatloaf to share.

Mum had their Lemonade while I decided to try their "Must Have" Root Beer. The root beer cost RM 5.50 and I thought it would be something special or huge. To my disappointment, it wasn't that great nor was it huge. It was the same size as thez Lemonade. WTF!

Root Beer - RM 5.50

Lemonade - RM 2.50

The second disappointment was my Beer Batter Fish. I expected it to taste like beer. But, it was just like any other batter. It's quite an unhealthy dish too, nothing was green in the plate!

Beer Batter Fish - RM 22.00

Mum's soft ribs came next. She said she loves it but I didn't. It tasted bland to me. I prefer the one in Bad Ass Coffee.

Grilled Soft Ribs - RM 25.50

Our Classical Meatloaf then arrived. The mashed potato was GOOD! Love the texture and sauce. The meatloaf was nice but had a little weird taste to it. This dish is worth paying for. :)

Classical Meatloaf - RM 15.00

M's burger came last. It has HOT cheese INSIDE the patty. As she was eating it, I saw sauce dripping down the burger! Must have been JUICY! Should try this too.

Jucy Lucy - RM 13.50

After our meal, we wanted dessert. So, we tried their Apple Crumble. I expected the crumble to be in a bowl. But, they just layered it on the plate and put 2 scoops of ice cream on top of it. It was just okay. Could have been better if the crumble was crunchier and if they made the apple more sour.

Apple Crumble - RM 8.00

Overall, the deco and environment here is good. And if I ever come back, I'll definitely order the Meatloaf and Lemonade. Feel free to come try their other specialties though. :)

Eating Sushi WITHOUT Meat

So my family is vegetarian today. We then decided to have lunch at Sakae Sushi. Once there, we looked at the menu and realized there are quite a few things for us to order.

First, I ordered Inari (japanese rice wrapped in beancurd skin). Then, I also ordered kappa maki (cucumber) and tamago maki (egg). Also, I had some Kakiage and Tamago Handroll (omelette and cucumber handroll). I ordered potato salad too and it was great.

Inari - RM 1.90

Kappa Maki & Tamago Maki - RM 1.90 + RM 3.90

Kakiage - RM 3.90

Tamago Handroll - RM 3.90 each

Potato Salad - RM 3.90

Besides that, mum had Edamame (green peas) while M had a Kinoko Soba (Assorted Mushrooms in Soba Soup).

Edamame - RM 3.90

Kinoko Soba - RM 11.90

Overall, it was quite a satisfying dinner. Wasn't really full though. Anyway, we paid the bill with mum's Citibank card. The cashier then told us that handrolls are "buy 1 free 1".

Anyway, the bill turned out to be RM 47.35. And that's the end of our vegetarian adventure in Sakae Sushi. :)
